Barry Waddell

Barry, a former high-level USTA junior tennis player from Miami, Florida, consistently ranked in the top 5 in the state. At 18, he clinched the Florida State High School Championships at the number one singles position, securing numerous college scholarships. As a freshman at the University of Illinois, he played number one excelling in singles and doubles and reaching the finals of the Big Ten Championships. Post-college, Barry ventured into professional tennis, competing on the satellite tour in Europe and the United States. After retiring from professional tennis, he returned to Florida to become the Director of Tennis at Casa Ybel on Sanibel Island.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading pickleball professionals and instructors, Barry has achieved remarkable success throughout his 16-year career. Notably, he won the 2019 US OPEN Senior Pro Men’s Doubles Championship alongside Dave Weinbach, the 2020 World Pickleball Championships with Paul Olin, the 2021 World Pickleball Championships with John Sperling, the Texas Open with Steve Kennedy, the Atlanta Open with Scott Moore, the Cincinnati Open with Dave Weinbach, and the National Senior Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2022.

Barry eagerly anticipates playing and competing across the country, promoting the flourishing and growing sport of Pickleball. As an IPTPA and IFP Certified Teaching Professional, he conducts Pickleball Camps and clinics throughout the United States and Costa Rica. Since 2019, Barry has been a sponsored Gearbox professional and authorized dealer.
